Engine Displacement Tips

  • Displacement = π × (bore ÷ 2)² × stroke × number of cylinders
  • Engine size is commonly measured in cubic centimeters (cc), cubic inches (ci), or liters (L).
  • 1 liter = 1,000 cubic centimeters = 61.024 cubic inches
  • Larger displacement generally produces more power but may consume more fuel.
  • Engines with the same displacement but more cylinders typically rev higher and run smoother.
  • Modern engines achieve more power from smaller displacements through turbocharging and other efficiency improvements.
